Is it the chilly weather? The new flight feathers? ... Whatever's causing it, the splashitudinous bathing appears to be for the youngs. The olds -- Yogi & Grievous -- are not gettin' in the middle of that. #autumn #ducks #TidewaterVa #backyardnature #birds

Yogi & Grievous (domestic/mallard hybrids) are not strong fliers, even when they arent waiting for flight feathers to grow back. Here's how they enter the yard. 1/3 #ducks #mallards #birds #TidewaterVa #waterfowl #nature

Here's how the other ducks -- whose bodies are more Mallard-like than domestic -- prefer to arrive. You can see 1 or 2 really sizing up the situation first. 2/3

Didn't get to see it take off, but here it was pumping excess fluid from its body, trying to get its wings working. Hopefully tomorrow it'll be headed for Mexico.

Housemate claims that that the glittering you see in this vid is light reflected by #spiders' eyes. 🤔 Maybe? (poor quality vid, sorry)

Before I could zoom closer, a breeze came up, causing the grasshopper to move.

Occasionally, this guy would show up, sometimes alone, sometimes accompanied by a little hen.

This muskrat's a cagey little creature. Seems it always swims past the yard, casing the joint, before coming in at the far end of the bulkhead. Here, you can see it sniff-checking the area (cuz its vision is poor) as it swims past me, Yogi & Grievous. #nature #TidewaterVa #DelMarVa

It nearly always returns to the bulkhead via the same path, but instead of returning to its entry point at the far corner of the yard, it turns right on the bulkhead & trots along toward mouth of the canal.
