MAPQUEST IS BACK?
1999: Turn left on Oak St.
2026: Turn left on Oak St. The government may now know you turned left on Oak St.
We built surveillance technology.
Now technology helps us avoid it.
Progress!
I really hope this idea sticks this time. It's been built hundreds of times before by local CopWatch groups, @eff.org's AtlasOfSurveillance.org, the `man_made=surveillance` tag wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:man... on @openstreetmap.bsky.social, and many others that I've used over the years.
Also, I noticed that the Android Auto view doesn't seem to let you change between different routes during navigation.
i hope u can find it in ur heart to take us back <3
Interop with @beaconbits.app maybe??
You could look at @cartes.app for similar map work being done in this space 😇
"This app may share these data types with third parties
- Location, App activity and 2 others
This app may collect these data types
- Location, Financial info and 2 others"
Though with Apple Maps, I wish I could turn OFF the surveillance layer, aka red-light camera warnings.
Yes, I know there's a camera there, there's also a red light to tell me if I need to stop. Speed-trap warnings are ok, though I last got one on a freeway crawling at 25mph :-)
Any chance of expanding to other countries?
As someone who lives in Atlanta, this is AMAZING.
Question - are these datasets available publicly for researchers?
Also, I’m pretty sure that place is like 1000 feet from where I used to get lunch when I was in college.

on my bingo card
Many thanks for this info and for this technique.
🖕🏻🖕🏻 tae these characters, hey MapQuest? 😂
Where do you get location data for the plate readers?
And why can't I search along route?
Use iTagTip, we have loaded 120,000+ ALPRs in our Location Based Platform and the app (not a website) will notify you when you are close to one of the cameras. It's free. Download iTagTip and install the ALPR Cameras (FLOCK)
