Albertans have officially voted not to hold a vote on whether they should leave Canada. But uh, they also narrowly voted *for* some really gross, anti-immigrant trash that looks to scapegoat migrants for problems they didn’t cause. So no to separatism, but yes to racism? Yikes:

Sadly, its a classic tactic used by governments.

Ohhhh geez. Seriously #Alberta?
I’m just sick about it. 😞

We really have to stop labelling anyone who has concerns about immigration in this country as "racist". Some surely are, no doubt. There are many (probably most) however concerned with the volume, qualifications and impact on social service capacity and housing irrespective of background.
Carney, as he said himself yesterday and most don't even realize, he already addressed the issue by capping the immigrant numbers to sustainable numbers. There was no need to have those questions on the ballot.
She got exactly what she wanted out of this expensive debacle. “You want a question about separation? I have some questions too. We’ll make a day of it.”
It’s a sad and discouraging results package: “We want to stay in Canada, but a meaner and more racist Canada.” We’re lucky you’re around to do and express some clear thinking on this.

We suck.
I dont think 30% of our immigrants should be Indians and I think we need to focus more on high skill immigrants.

Too many of you ignore the face that the criteria for and lack of infrastructure to support the recent waves of immigrants, as well as the TFW issue are a big fucking problem for most.
I wouldn't be surprised if Smith put the separation question on the ballot to distract attention away from the other nine.
That’s 100% what she did. She’s been trying to consolidate power in any way she can.
Thank you for covering this. It’s extremely frustrating how many Canadians don’t seem to care about the obvious scapegoating that’s been happening in this country.
Our small town would collapse if our immigrants were to leave ... they arrive with accents a'many and multiple skin colours; they are nurses and doctors and taxi drivers and they also do the more basic work of our small society. And they appreciate Canada and make excellent citizens and neighbours!!
I find the yes to the 9 votes more disturbing than the no to the 10 votes.

Revolting.
What's the over/under when Alberta starts promoting immigrants to come to their province because they are desperate for workers?
Its a mix of racism and selfishness as an Albertan I find both quite sickening.

more "no to separatism, what the hell does this wall of text even mean to racism" based on the data I've seen
I’m at least glad that some of these had such narrow margins, I was expecting the other nine to be 65-70% or so in favour.

I live in the armpit of the province so it’s nice to be reminded that while it’s still a HUGE problem, the outright stupidity and racism isn’t held by the ENTIRE province.
