I think this is the Prestige of our time- the truth revealed right away...

Also, it's been 20 years, so I don't think I'm spoiling anything.

I might be. Who knows?
^ Magic trick. Magic trick is the movie..

It's the Illusionist, right..forgot the name of the movie. ;)
when fantasy is treated as reality, insanity's not far behind
best thing about this ad is that the target audience won't even realise how terrible this ad makes them look
Guarantee you this guy’s problem isn’t his ugly ass charts
Also, if a bunch of people stood around my desk and applauded a spreadsheet I'd typed up I would feel like they were pod people about to eat me or something. Does this happen in the real world?

This reboot of American Psycho looks grim.

That is so fuckin grim
A woman is literally lint-rolling him because she likes his charts so much?????
That's on brand.

Great sea urchin ceviche
This is disturbing
This ad to me reads, "AI is for men who see themselves in American Psycho."
@farmerogriff.bsky.social · 22/10/2026 00:37
Idk if it is good or not that I didn't clock him as a white guy or the other as a non-white guy.

I saw it as asshole copying the competent guy for the most petty reason ever. Basically cheat with AI to fix your stupidity and incompetency.
I thought you were exaggerating but no......
🃏 @ytrozs.bsky.social · 22/10/2026 00:25
“Work lives on” is the AI translated ripoff of “arbeit macht frei”.
@youngcrone.bsky.social · 22/10/2026 00:14
Yeah, that's 'not even a contest,' that's just Trumpily claiming victory out of someone else and making disinfo machines go along with it.
Note the repeated use of “honestly” in this ad touting dishonesty. You cannot make this stuff up. Clio FAIL.
They know their market. Mediocre white guys developing tools for themselves.

And yes, you can be very smart and still be mediocre if you only use your talents to create trash like this, with zero regard for how it affects people outside your teeny tiny bubble.
I never planned on using Copilot anyway, but now it's getting a full-throated boycott. Racist idiots.
Third eye open people mind control every thought from the rest of us with telepathic magic.

Voices in people’s heads? They are other humans on Earth who mind control the rest of us.

Look your friends in the eyes. They’re bad at keeping their cover. #endoursuffering
That add really annoyed mez and I hadn't even considered what you've pointed out here. Now I'm more annoyed.
I think Folgers has competition for worst commercial now. Just... Wow.
All the “AI for work” ads seem to be “hey, you’re a lazy asshole - we can help!”
Unmikely @unmikely.bsky.social · 21/10/2026 23:46
I think about the market research automakers did that showed many SUV buyers were insecure and self-absorbed. Similar thing here. Microsoft’s agency proposed going after lazy dudes who lack confidence and experience but feel entitled to status and approval.

Love that this ad is literally just this American Psycho scene
Oh, that’s what’s happening? Sheesh. For mental health, I’ve always muted the sound and avoided paying attention to this commercial.
Of course if the ad was fully accurate, the AI would do it all garbled and wrong making mediocre white guy look even worse.
It's pretty sad that they think this is a *good* thing. Just wow.
They asked ai to make an ad
They definitely know their audience.
he's such a loser.

Only slightly less subtle than the ad I keep hearing where they ask what Henry Ford could have accomplished if he’d had ChatGPT.

it is amazing they decided this was a good look for them.

I mean, obviously they know their audience, but there's no more mediocre dudes to win over. the people that think this is great already depends on AI.
This is a satire commercial right? They aren't seriously trying to pitch their PISS bot like this, right?
the tagline is "work lives on" - which should terrify every working person in the world today - when they promise something as basic as this, we're f*cked

In all seriousness, if you weren't reporting this as a real advertisement, I'd assume it was satire. It's so blatantly pathetic, it seems like a team of middlingly talented AI critics wrote it.
That was my response. Is this a parody ad that people are mistaking for reality?
oh PLEASE won't someone think of the mediocre white men? you have no idea how hard it is for them, being white men and all, they're the most oppressed people ever!!11!1!

"Why should that person, that brown person, get praise and attention rather than me, a white man? Ah, what's this "Steal other people's work" button here?"
That’s horrifying.

LMFAO
Hold up this isn’t satire, this is an actual ad?
🎯
“Genuinely honest”? Microsoft is selling a familiar racial bargain: Black labor supplies the competence; a white colleague collects the credit. Copilot makes that appropriation the success story. “Swapping dogwhistles for foghorns” names what the ad normalizes.

Say non-white again.
“Nonwhite” makes whiteness the reference point and collapses distinct peoples into everyone outside it. Here, the colleague is BLACK. Naming him matters: the ad depicts a white employee benefiting from a Black colleague’s work.

That specific relationship shouldn’t disappear into a catchall.
Owl @owlofbarns.bsky.social · 21/10/2026 21:40
as someone who has recently spent hours at work fighting with Excel to improve the file with a bunch of sample data for a specific test done at work to make searching and disseminating called-for sample IDs much easier and more readable

this ad fucking pisses me off
Joe Paul @joepaul1.bsky.social · 21/10/2026 21:38
Kyle can eat a bag of dicks.
That can't be a real ad. Is it?
Is it theft? You bet!
Is it also racist? Hell yeah it is?
Who even greenlights the general narrative of "we will help you take credit for someone else's work" as an ad?
Have they really found that that type of person is their core audience?
Their layering the racism in is just abysmal.
@superlambbanana.bsky.social · 21/10/2026 23:10

Kyle, at home that evening.

Poking around. This video only seems to live on ispot.

Its not on YouTube, the Copilot channel, or MS com

Is it a likely scenario, yes.

Is it a Microsoft message. No. 🚩

I'd be suspicious and take it as a AI created wannabe.
I saw it on television on Sunday so it is unfortunately being broadcast on US network TV (I forget which network but it was running alongside one of the football games)
@iainamackinnon.bsky.social · 21/10/2026 21:34
Is this ad real? Encouraging lazy people to cheat? Shame on Microsoft if it is.
My jaw dropped when I saw that commercial. It's right up there with Flock bragging about how easy it was to find a lost dog without thinking about the long-term ramifications.

Serious question: Will AI eventually become something of the past? Will it kill itself off?
sanrafa. @sanrafa.blacksky.app · 21/10/2026 22:21
I have a feeling it’s gonna end up like cocaine in the late 19th/early 20th century:

Seems useful at first -> becomes unnecessarily ubiquitous -> negative effects can no longer be ignored -> it’s banned for the general public and safer alternatives arrive.
Microsoft filmed the perfect AI dystopia ad and thought it was inspirational. Mediocre guy automates plagiarism, steals his coworker's credit, wins. Somewhere a marketing exec still doesn't get why everyone shares it as a horror movie.
Nobody who sees themself in this ad has a soul.
hey @microsoft.com what the fuck
mars @imsmudge.bsky.social · 21/10/2026 21:25
felt insane watching this during an mlb game. all of these commercials start by going "are you a self depracating wimpy loser? do we have the product for you!!" and idk how that's not immediately offensive to any viewer.
There was an ad early on, where a guy takes a picture of his partner/roommate & their cat in the living room, he then edits the cat out, is pleased with himself like crazy & shares it with her & the cat and they both look at him pissed off & confused so he undoes it.

'AI that thing no one likes!'
Ads like this don’t get made by accident. Somebody at Microsoft signed off on the proposal, and then somebody signed off the finished work. “Sure, that’s what it does and that’s who it’s doing it for. Run it.”
Doesn't seem racist to me. But I'm not American.
Mark @mrkdrm.bsky.social · 21/10/2026 21:16
So was Microsoft thinking we would hate them LESS after seeing this ad?
Kyles & Karens all the way down
Ah, but maybe the scripts was written by AI?
So many levels to this including: what makes Daniel think Daniela won’t undermine him? And then mgmt figures out they don’t need any of them

It’s everybody’s game until it’s no one’s game
Wait this is REAL?!
I read it differently - he merely requested the charts be made “beautiful” which means either cosmetically better or it falsified the data. Kyle is now either skating by on superficiality or he’s a criminal.
Some social media gurus were suggesting taking viral videos and filing off watermarks, rephrasing the text, and using Ai to generate essentially the same concept to post as your own.
I guess this, like a few other of those sorts of things, have a corporate sheen painted on it now.

Very stupid too when all Microsoft document making software has design and colour scheme options already built into them that you can just click on to "make it pretty". You don't have to ask AI to do that. You can even create templates based on company branding and save them for future use
Kimmylea @kimmylea.bsky.social · 21/10/2026 21:08

It's not at all "genuinely honest" because the ad's intent is to lull us into thinking the tech bros care about social justice and equity - when what they want above all else is profit and control of the society. This is the way neoliberalism was sold to us and you're falling for it again.
Says a lot about the critical facilities of the bosses.

Need more managers saying "if I find out you used AI in your work, I'll view it as an acknowledgement of how easily replaced your skill set is and I will take that under advisement."
Speaking for a lot of Kyles out there: What did I do to deserve this?!
It is not an exaggeration to say that continuing to allow the people in charge of this to have money, influence, liberty or the use of their hands is a direct threat to human civilisation.
In what fucking world does Kyle's job exist? This is as bogus as any beer commercial. MSFT traffics in bullshit!
This. If Kyle's job is just "do the same stuff as Daniel, but not as well", why is Kyle still employed? Copying someone else's paper only works if you're sitting the same test.
@pianomover.bsky.social · 21/10/2026 20:52

Apple did one where a father is gifted a hammer from his daughter. His wife who we must assume forgot it was his birthday, asks Siri to make a video of all the photos she has on her phone of her husband and daughter woodworking together. It was incredibly bleak.
Just so I‘m clear, this is an ad FOR CoPilot, yes? This isn’t supposed to make me think, ”Wow, only backstabbing cheaters use this tool”?
Everyone loves ultra competitive, shortcut taking coworkers.
It’s even more obvious when you rewatch it and mentally replace every occurrence of “competitive” with “a racist”.
Is it better that they dont have to hide it or worse? I can't decide

@sweettea101.bsky.social · 21/10/2026 20:37
And to think, I got flak when I said "Generative A.I. was the straw guardian of charlatans and frauds."
They're trying so hard to capture the energy of the famous Excel commercial and it just doesn't work because Excel is a real tool and this is and "I'm stupid and can't do my job" machine.
Too bad Kyle doesn't know that once his employer figures out that AI can do his work better than he can, he'll be laid off right alongside the coworker he plagiarized from.

Congratulations, Kyle! You just trained your replacement!
For me the funniest part is that apparently the only thing Copilot did was make the charts look nicer? And for that a lady decided he deserves to be lint-rolled?
🤮
Goddamn they really are embracing the "technology for psychopaths" thing with their whole chest, huh
Wow, that's.... not even subtle.

Wow. WOW. Holy shit.
This is an AD???
Umm.... uh, yeah. Fuck Kyle
Around three years ago I received a YouTube ad expositing the benefits of an AI-powered homework-and-essay-writing service with the (paraphrased) tagline: “The teacher never has to know.”

Cheaters pre-date AI, but it’s telling these companies no longer pretend this is a misuse of their product.
Alright, someone start copying all these tech bros and billionaires and let's get them the fuck out. That's how it works, right?
Omg. So embarrassing

Fuck Kyle. Kyle sucks.
I’m not familiar with iSpot: is this an ad MS actually commissioned or something an agency did on spec? Like the Skittles “come the rainbow” ad that got so many clicks a billion year ago?

They know their target demographic well.

People who aren't good at their job and but feel entitled to the praise of someone who is and are willing to underhanded things like take credit for other people's work to get there.

Unfortunately it also works which is probably the biggest tragedy.
Also beautifully and unwittingly illustrates the Graeber/Bullshit Jobs line that what execs are most moved by are pretty pictures

Congresswoman Underwood had a brilliant idea to take the profits being made from AI and create a sovereign wealth fund, like in Kuwait, from which Americans are paid. Given that our information and knowledge is what propels this technology, she’s absolutely correct!!
No she's an idiot. There are no profits being made
Has MSFT located and restored the misplaced data from their recent botched copilot migration?

Legit shocking that someone, let alone a company and an ad company thought this was an ok way to market AI. I guess their brains are already too cooked on the hype for them to see anything objectively anymore. Lucky us (?)

This is unfortunately a trend that I've noticed in LLM marketing in the last year where they *very directly* are marketing to people by going, "Hey, you're fucking lazy, right? Use our product."
There was an Apple AI Ad that eventually got deleted that was of a woman celebrating her husband's birthday and in comes the sister in law who plays this carefully edited montage of pictures of them together while the wife has no gift, so she asks Apple to make her the same gift.

It's crazy!

I remember one that I saw a bit ago where it was a wife waking up on her husband's birthday and then seeing that their kids had all made loving gifts for their dad and she then told the AI in her IPhone to make a collage (because she couldn't be bothered to do that) and she sent it to him and
Well, that's because cis-white men are fucking lazy.
Kimmylea @kimmylea.bsky.social · 21/10/2026 20:50
Those weird Matt McConoughy ones where it's like "are you completely idiot unable to perform basic human functions? Unable to even order food you like at a restaurant, or ask for an inside table to get out of the rain? This is the AI assistant for you!"
What else are they supposed to do? Even when their products work, the main benefit is that you don't have to learn a skill. The main alternative is to advertise to employers that they don't need to invest in training, and those campaigns piss people off for some reason.
@sweettea14.bsky.social · 21/10/2026 20:45
Or the google ones where they ask a basic question, get a basic answer and just go ‘huh’. Cause it’s the best response you can get before someone moves on to real work.
Good God, so gross.
Exactly what I thought when I saw it.
He’s getting hit with friendly fire.

Props to the ad agency: they nailed the "white person who plagiarises and steals credit using LLMs" look with 100% accuracy
And they named him Kyle, the whitest white-boy name for young Millenials/older Zoomers.
Have to shave my beard
@motherofmushrooms.bsky.social · 21/10/2026 21:36
If he couldn’t plagiarize he’d probably bring a gun to shoot everyone though.
Also is the white guy being praised in the C-suite, where the guy he stole from is being praised by co-workers??!!???
We are taking back Google Joshi
So Good Wink

It's crazy that he's almost a dead ringer for a former coworker that filled his portfolio with my work. I had no idea mediocre credit thieves had a look.
All I hear is "You about to lose yo job" 🎶
That's just Bluesky Paul
@mrdoublev.bsky.social · 21/10/2026 20:49
Man is smiling like he’s about to steal Christmas.
"built by assholes, for assholes"
They've also got him isolated from the rest of the team. Everything about this is both pitch perfect and hilariously oblivious.
Pretty sure I worked with this guy at my last job
@sunnyjim.bsky.social · 21/10/2026 20:25
Boss:”Co-pilot make me a beautiful financial report. Oh also, fire everyone”
So let’s destroy the environment democracy and our societal fabric just so mediocre white guys can feel better about themselves.
That is also known as the "white person who plagiarizes and steals credit using subordinates' efforts" look.

Not sure why it's a lesser issue when a human worker is exploited like that.
Ye gods.
Ketan Joshi @ketanjoshi.co · 21/10/2026 19:37
The amazing thing is that he isn't getting Copilot to do it from scratch - it is very much the direct plagiarism thing I have been talking about!!!

bsky.app/profile/keta...
The cheeky look! Who is the target audience one wonders - mothers in law who think their son is too good for any dates? Elderly neighbours with candy?
Wait -- this is a real AD?

Like they are pitching this as "good" and "how you should use the product"?
'Kyle, hes not competitive, Kyle is not even worth your time, be like Kyle, be an empty vessel.

Microslop: empowering mediocrity'
God, it's just TOO on the nose...
Just seen it. Awful. Basically encourages cheating at work.
@seattlelife.bsky.social · 21/10/2026 19:23
My eyes might have rolled farther back into my head than they ever have before. Wow your charts of (probably) no substance look prettier?! Quite the administrative bloat we have going on there too… Are we sure this ad wasn’t written by AI?
Pretty incredible that this made it past a brainstorming session because it could easily be taken for satire but, since it is not that, we can assume that they know who exactly what kind of person would see this as useful.
Rens @shadur.bsky.social · 21/10/2026 21:29
Yes, and that's the exact demographic they're marketing to in the first place.
Yep. They'll never go broke catering to mediocre white man anxiety.
TheGF @stw.bsky.social · 21/10/2026 20:38
Young and Incredulous TheGF: Were there no Black people in the room when they brainstormed the creative?

Old and Jaded TheGF: You damn well know there weren’t.
Lynn O'K @lynnok.bsky.social · 21/10/2026 19:31
And the woman cleaning his jacket 🙄
@anotherbensegal.bsky.social · 21/10/2026 19:14
There’s also one where a bot confuses an old woman into thinking it is a real person & the implicit message is ‘we created a tool for elder abuse’
Turned on nba opening night and saw one of these ads, instant mood killer. It’s appalling how tone deaf these commercials are
@pr-babe.bsky.social · 21/10/2026 20:42
Yess!! Seen 2 using old women as if it’s some kind of best friend. Further isolates people.
And someday if you live long enough, you too will be an elder. Just wait till you see how they're capable of abusing you by then. Your home health aide may be a replicant undetectable by any Voight-Kampff test.
Don’t forget the subtext of “isn’t it cute it’s like the Golden Girls” for the thing trying to radicalize your grandma into right wing terrorism
I hate that one, too.

I can’t stop pointing out that targeting lonely old people is a hallmark of dishonest and ill intent.
or a way to ignore your parents because it will take care of them for you
